I have been overweight for about the last 25 years. This summer I reached an all-time high of 309lbs and decided that’s it! I am doing this blog to help myself, my family and also to show people that we CAN change. My goal is to lose 2 lbs a week for the first year and SUSTAIN this loss and exercise program. I’m not going to turn into a gym rat or be the poster child for some weight loss program; I simply want to change my lifestyle.
I have created this blog to get advice and help in my eating and exercise habits, the rest is ultimately up to me. My biggest setbacks have always been sustainability. Once I go off a program it’s very difficult to get back on. Whether it’s exercise or eating, that is why I want to “go live” so others can help me and see some of the things I am dealing with and we can go through this together. I am convinced most of the people out there with weight issues have the same ups and downs as I do, but success is possible.
Working in the health insurance world it dawned on me one day that I could make a difference for myself and help others with this weight loss blog because I have access to all the resources. Working with Sanford Health Plan they are dedicated to health and fitness. They have wellness educators, nutritionists and personal trainers who can post valid information on my blog to help all of us. I live on an acreage so I don’t have easy access to a gym or personal trainers, nor would I probably go if I did. I know many people struggling with weight loss have a hard time committing to a gym, and many don’t have access to personal trainers and/or state of the art exercise facilities or machines. Even if they did – will they want to go there? Don’t we all want to learn about effective exercises we can do at home?
I ask all of you for your help in the success of this lifestyle change for me…. I cannot do this alone!
Jason – I think you are doing great! I can see it in your face and belly already! Keep up the good work ~remember you shouldn’t expect to eat perfect everyday, try for more good days in the week than bad!

I have always loved full flavored food (the unhealthy stuff, if it says no fat, no sugar or no sodium I almost always look the other way). But lately I have been “trying” to eat healthier also. One thing I have been trying to do is think, “Instead of living to eat,” I need to “eat to live.” The goal is to begin to enjoy eating healthier foods. One other option to try is, stop eating meals before you feel full. Shrinking my portion size seems to help me feel better also. Good luck!
Jason – I think this is just wonderful – you are doing great – just remember to take it slow you didn’t put the weight on all at once either so it is going to take awhile. Maybe you can inspire me!!! Keep up the good work. Cosette
I recently started watching my weight and try to get into better shape for my wedding in Sept. 2010 and I stumbled onto the live strong website. On this website it tells you what your daily calorie intake should be, tracks all the food you eat and any exercise you do. I started it on the 4th of Jan. ’10 and have already lost 3 lbs. just by using this website. Thought it was something you might be interested in. The web address is http://www.livestrong.com
